in lower court outside mumbai filing in marathi may be required as it is language of the common man in these areas . whether it is compulsory or not cross check with the registry of the court

I am of the view that it should not be compulsory in any State of India,as the court can always appoint interpreter for any of the party.

It is not compulsory at all.
THERE IS A SCHEME IN MAHARASHTRA TO GIVE INCENTIVE TO COURT WHO GIVE DECISONS IN MARATHI, SO THIS MAY HAPPEN.
Even in UP cases are filed or applications are moved in HINDI , but no body objects for ENGLISH.
