Limitation period for filing appeal

defendet was in knoledge that case was goingon as he appeared through counsel on receipt of summons and got exparte proceedings set aside thereafter he nor his advocate appeared and case decided exparte. now he can apply to set aside decree in 30days from knowledge date. order are dt.3/5/2012.can he take plea that he is not aware of court orders till date to delay the matter
