Duration of punishment as per gender

I want to know as per what law a woman is given less punishment than a man for same crime or prescribed by law for that crime

I tried finding it but could not find in IPC or CrPC.

Had sometime back read a news article referring to a judgement where punishment for a lady murderer was decreased as she had applied exemption on basis of being a female and court reduced her punishment referring to the law under which she had applied.

I am not able to find that law now. If anyone knows such law please reply

I want to create comparison on how legally women criminals are able to get away with lighter punishment than for men in similar crime.

Also see if I can challenge the logic behind such discriminatory law.
