TDS Return Correction

(Querist) 29 July 2011 This query is : Resolved
Whether a deductor of tax at source is bound to entertain the request of any deductee for filing correction statement? If so under which prov. of Income Tax Act?
soumitra basu (Expert) 02 August 2011
It is the duty of the deductor to file correct TDS return so that the deductee can get the credit in correct manner. In case of non compliance the deductor may be liable to face penalty.

Dear Mr. Basu,
Thanks for your reply but the reply is incomplete. Which is the compelling &/or binding section or prov.under Income Tax Act that force deductor to revise for no fault of him but of deductee, e.g., if the deductee didn't furnish his PAN & after filing of original return, comes with request to revise the return then how the deductor is at fault & liable to face penalty.
