Fee refund rules after term commencement

(Querist) 25 September 2012 This query is : Resolved
Hi Team

Please can anyone guide/advise me in the below matter.

I had taken admission in S.N.D.T law college santacruz on 31-07-2012 i.e
on the last day of admissions. So, the term commenced immediately on the very next day i.e.1-08-2012.

Due to some reason I had to cancel my admission so I called up the college office number on 4aug (within 4 days period) & informed them. I was told to come on 6-08-2012-monday and submit an application for cancellation. On 6 aug, I did as i was i told and submitted an application for cancellation and requested for the refund of fee paid rs.18665/-.
Much to my surprise, i was informed that i would only get a refund of rs.1600 out of total of rs.18,665 as per the prospectus line "No refund of fees after term commences".
I tried a lot to convince them that in my case it was just not possible to comply with the requirement of cancellation before term commences as i took admission on the last day and term got commenced the very immediate next day.

However, all my request n pleadings have fallen on their deaf ears:-( n they have only refunded 1600 to me.

Please can of the experts out here advise me of any remedy available to me. Look forward to your advise/guidance in this matter.

Thanks and Regards

you were fully aware when you took admission that no refund would be granted after commencement of term . you accepted the said condition and took admission .

if now you dont want to continue college is no bound to give you full refund . you have not mentioned the reason why you cant continue with college . what are the reasons? is it because you have got admission in aother college?

Dear Sir,

Thank you very much for your revert and advise.

To answer your question, regarding the reason for my cancellation: Yes, I actually got an admission in a Mumbai University Affiliated college.

Actually at the time of taking admission, I was ignorant of the fact that S.n.d.t is not affiliated to Mumbai university. So, after I had taken the admission I realised my mistake and in the next four days i.e. on 4 Aug, I managed to secure admission in G.J advani Law college.

Thats when I immediately called up S.N.D.T to cancell my admission.

The line in their prospectus read as under: "Student desirous of cancelling the admission should inform withing 2 weeks of taking the admission and upon approval from the head of deaprtment shall be eleigible for 50% refund of tution fee(i.e 50% of rs.11,000). However, no refund of fee will be given after term commences."

So, I requested them the second condition of cancelling before term commenced was not possible in my case as i took admission on the last date. However, as I am informing you withing the 2 weeks of taking admission, atleast refund me 50% of the fees.

Still, they are adamant that the will only refund Rs.1600 out of the total of 18,665/-. I feel really helpless as I am an intern living on stipend. And on top of this, I feel this is like day-light robbery :(
