Hi All,
please guide.. What is the format for an FIR number and a Crime Number?
I was given a case number as CR65 of 2010 u/s 498(A) IPC during my arrest One Inspector of the police said that it is not a crime number. My lawyer says that it is the crime number. Hence I would like to know what is the exact format for an FIR Number and a Crime Number

You were given the copy of the FIR. It would mention the number of FIR

Thanks Shonee Ji for your reply. I have tried on google but those formats do not have a number and that is why I have posted my query on this site. Strange that I have to search for FIR and Crime numbers after I was arrested in a fake 498A

FIR number and Crime Number is one and the same.
Probably, the police would have referred to Criminal Complaint Number (case number) referred in the trial court.

Where is the case started/ The forms or the formats for FIR differs from state like in WB there is nothing called Crime Number. Once the FIR is registered it is named as so and so Police station Case No...of 2011.

The number given to you pertains the court file no. which has nothing to do with the crime no. or sections or with the knowledge of police or internet.
Court file no. is written on it and process of court is recognized under this no. so you do not intermingle these two numbers at the same time.
