If situated in city area then it should be entered in the record of municipality and this can be a good source to know the desired place.

Although a deed of transfer with regard to an immovable property can be got registered with the office of the sub-registrar within whose jurisdiction the property situates, but without the particulars of the seller(s), purchaser(s), description of property and most materially the approximate date (or year of registration) it is very difficult to get information thereof. In the offices of sub-registrars records are maintained with the serial number of registration of deeds and datewise. No record is maintained propertywise.

In Municipalities the reocrds are maintained on the basis of property numbers but the copies of documents are very difficult to trace because in municipalities no record of title documents of properties are required to be maintained.

It is hard to find out the document without knowing anything.
If the property is situated in your city you can find out in the City survey office but you have say the name of the person.

Now a days it is very easy because of the computerisation of the land records
