it is the statement of accused and in that you can answer when it is asked whether you want to produce any evidence in your support or not than answer yes and call the witnesses to whom you want to examine for your defense.

The soul of 313 is not mere to ask whether accused want to produce any evidence in his support or not.

The purpose is to enable the accused personally to explain any circumstances appearing in the evidence brought by the prosecution against him.

313 is the most under-utilized provision of CrPC by accused.

The whole material of prosecution is put to accused and an opportunity is given to him to explain the circumstances and counter it.

Also accused can bring doubts in the mind of the court in this section which can lead to his acquittal.
