Your query relates to two issues:1.IPR protection for software and 2.IPR protection for inventions relating to medicine.
1. Software or computer program can be protected as a "literary work" within the meaning of S.2(o) of Copyright Act, 1957.It will be given a copyright protection.
2.Your software has nothing to do with medicines or surgical methods but is a software that deals with inventorying etc. Hence, the software is not patentable unless you can show that the software either by itself or in conjuction with a computer is an inventive step. Probably, it is not.
3. So, you can claim copyright protection but not a patent.
4. The software has nothing to do with Trademarks.
