Dear Experts,
My son aged 20 years and 5 months is currently studying III Engg. He composes music for western pop and has displayed a piece in the 'You Tube' in the Internet. An Indian residing in London got interested and has approached my son to enter into a contract; he has agreed to pay a certain amount towards setting tune to each lyric supplied by him.
Kindly advise me the usual procedure in cases like this. This is the first experience for my son. Specifically, kindly enlighten me as to an outright sale or a payment on royalty basis is preferable.
Thanking for your efforts.
Sincerely,
S. Raghuraman

Dear Mr. Raghuram,
Congratulations!!! your son is doing a wonderful job.
Both the models are available in the market. I strongly believe you have to take a careful look when you enter in to the contact.
Assuming they are making a CD of songs, majority will be composed by your son
Scenario 1: You make a outright sale, imagine he paid US$ 10,000. That tune hit market & sold several millions. At the end of the day your profit is only US$10,000.
Scenario 2: You make a royalty agreement, imagine he paid US$ 15 per copy. That tune hit market & was a flop. At the end of the day your profit is only several thousands.
