We hold savings accounts in post office . My brother wants to take a NSC national savings certificate 8 th issue on application he has appointed mother as nominee
So on that application itself there was a column which says witness to nomination . I being elder brother signed as witness . Post office authorities refused saying witness to this nomination cannot be from same family.( where on earlier instance i have to pay Rs 250 for witness sign from an outsider) so why for all instances all time i need to pay Rs 250 for an outsider thinking that in mind so i signed . Now Post office authorities refused saying witness to this nomination cannot be from same family . Please guide me for which i will be thankful

Ask for the rules/regulation on which basis the Post Office is insisting on outsiders.
Law does not put any bar from making family members witness to any monetary transaction.

why argue with postal authorities ? get your neighbor to be a witness . you need not pay money to your neighbor . just offer him cup of tea

although legally we are not aware of any such rule wherein member of family cannot be a witness .

Better purchase the NSC through Post Office authorized Agent. He would offer a small cash incentive to you and would happily do this type of service. He would be getting commission from Post office.
