can the pecuniary jurisdiction of a high court exceed rs. 10 lakh under any circumstance? if there are two defendants to a suit, can the plaintiff claim rs. 10 lakh individually from both the defendants?

I guess you are a little confused with the working of pecuniary jurisdiction as I infer from the use of the word "exceed Rs. 10 lakh". When the jurisdiction of any court is fixed at a particular level, there is no scope for "exceeding". In a suit for recovery of money against 2 defendants, generally the claim is made jointly and severally, meaning each of the defendants will be answerable to pay the whole claim and none of the defendants will be heard to say that let the other man pay one half and i will pay the other half. All this apart, in places where a high court exercises original jurisdiction, there is no upper limit to its pecuniary jurisdiction.

Right, it is established principle of law and no citation is required unless the judge is poorly equipped.
