I am allotee in IPOs in1990 and having shares in the form of certificates.
I dont want to sell these shares.
Is it compulsory to hold shares in dematerialised form only?

Not necessary. You can hold shares in physical form without any restriction. But as per directive of SEBI, a holder of shares in physical form can sell only after dematerialization after opening a Demat account with NSDL or CSDL. Demat account can be opened through any stock broker after providing due documents of your identity, address proof and bank particulars.
Please note, shares in physical forms are no more salable, as per the directive of the SEBI..

Dear Rayudua,
Although in his profile, Mr. NJS Rajkumar has boasted to be "Very much specialised in SEBI cases and NCLT and NCLAT matters," BUT is obsessed with a totally obsolete information. So, any body can guess to what results he could bring out for his clients with his totally obsolete knowledge!
In fact, before commenting against my post, he was required to be doubly sure, to what extent he has the expertise on the issue.
He really needs to update his knowledge base specifically with reference to the clarification issued by SEBI on 10 August 2018, where the regulatory body has very clearly stated that, ""The new amendment does not prohibit the investor from holding the shares in physical form, investor has the option of holding shares in physical form even after December 5, 2018" (the original date fixed earlier for demat).
Further, although shares are banned to be sold in physical form, but the new rule does not affect transfer of title of shares by way of inheritance or succession and interchanging of the order of name of shareholders.
Not only that, even after 7 months of such clarification, SEBI issued a further clarification in March, 2019, reiterating the same thing. So, it clearly is evident that he is not even aware of the Press Release isued by SEBI on Mar 27, 2019.
So, even a layman can guess, what kind of specialization he possesses about SEBI and Stock Market issues AND also, who misguides the querists, I or Mr. NJS Rajkumar!

You may not even get the Bonus Shares allotted or Dividend if any.. Now every thing is in Demat only and No Bonus Shares would be delivered in Physical Format
