Probate is the order of the court granted certifying that the will is genuine and valid. Probate can be obtained by applying in court.

Codicil is called as addition to the will. i.e., any document made in addition to the will is called codicil.

Codicil is an instrument made in relation to a Will, explaining, altering or adding to its dispositions and is deemed to be a part of the Will. There can be any number of codicils to a will.

Probate is a copy of the Will, certified under the seal of a competent Court. Probate can be obtained only on death of the testator.
