can i ask for equal share in maternal grandfather property if my both parents are expired

It is maternal grandfather's property, if your mother is having a right for a share in her father's property as per your personal law of succession, you can file a suit for partition and can file a suit for partition claiming your rightful share in the proeprty with separate possession provided your maternal grandfather is reported to have died intestate and not otherwise.

Your query is not clear to me. How many legal heirs are there to your maternal grandfather and are you the only legal heir to your parents?

Your mother was entitled to an equal share out of her deceased father's properties who is reported to have died intestate.
Upon intestate death of your mother, her own children as well as her husband (if he is alive), are entitled to an equal share in the share of property that your mother is entitled.
Hence you were advised to file a suit for partition claiming your mother's share in the proeprty wit separate possession so that you can avail her share among her own class I legal heirs.
