Public documents

(Querist) 04 April 2012 This query is : Resolved 
sir the documents which are obtained from police station are Public Documents or not?
I obtained the following two documents from police station.
a. General Diary Entry
b. Complaint Copy.

sir the above two comes under Public Document or not?

sir i came to know that the contents of public documents need not be proved. is it correct?

The mentioned documents are not public documents and thus are required to be proved.

I think otherwise, any documents created or originated out of a public activity or in discharge of public functions are classified as public documents. now in above context, these are public documents and hence its contents are disclosable to public at large.

If you obtained the copies through PIO, then make him a witness to assert the authenticity of the documents.

Contents of Police Complaints need to be proved. It need to be proved .
It is true that Public Document do not need to be proved in Court.
