Dear Sir, My father has made a gift deed. I have also paid the stamp duty as required, but have not yet registered the document. Please let me know within how much time the gift deed need to be registered. What is the penalty if the deed is registered late.

You are required to register the deed within 30 days from the date of execution, in case of delay the maximum time permissibe is within 4 months with a penalty upto 10 times.

You have to register it within four months. Otherwise the stamp papers will become futile.

In case it involves immovables, Registration is compulsory as otherwise, the Gift cannot be taken cognisance of. While there is no time limit for registration, there is a time limit for validity of the stamps purchased.

required to registered the same within four months from execution but in your case as the period is cross u have to file an revision application to collector of stamp where the proparty lies then the said office check the reasons for delay if registraion and if find the reasons r reasonable then allow your registration with imposing fine but both patieds should b present for registration
