Mr.Raghavan,

Sorry to hear your plight. However, please note that compassionate appointment to the legal heir of the deceased employee would depend upon the nature of any such scheme operating in the Canara Bank. You may please contact the Bank authorities to verify if there is any such provision in the Bank for employing the legal heir. Compassionate appointment is not a matter of right, but it is provided by the employer as a measure of immediate relief to the family who lost the bread-winner. Therefore, you may have to move fast after checking up the rules and regulations/scheme of the Canara Bank in this regard.

The need of Supreme Court Judgement, etc., may arise only if the Bank rufuses to give you compassionate appointment as per their scheme in operation without valid reasons. In that case you may get in touch with me when I can provide you several citations on the subject.

With best wishes,
