Registration of Sale Deed

(Querist) 11 January 2010 This query is : Resolved
Hello.
I am interested in buying a property in Goa. The previous conveyance deed was registered in 1971 in "Bombay". My lawyer is saying that because the property is in Goa it cannot be registered in Mumbai making the deed invalid.
The seller's lawyer is saying that back then it was allowed for properties from anywhere in India to be registered in any Presidency town (Mumbai, Kokata, Chennai) and Delhi.
Any guidance will be appreciated.

You have to regd., the sale deed at Goa only, to clarify your doubt you can meet the sub-registrar of your town.

No properties can be got registered where they physically exist so the only place is in the State of Goa.

I agree with experts.

yes, Earlier it was so, in cases where there were two or more properties located at two are more states and the sale deed was registered in any one state. Now Courts have held registration of sale deed out side state is treated invalid.

Thank you very much. However, is the sale deed registered in Bombay in 1971 valid? My lawyer is saying it is not.
