This query is : Resolved
The landlord of tenancy property under pagadi system took rent in advance for a year as he usually does but this time kept avoiding to give receipt under some pretext or other. Its paid in cash. Now he has sold his ownership rights to someone and has shifted to some other premises. we dont know who he is. He said I am no longer the owner so he is not liable to give one. He is doing this so he can harass us to leave the prime property with less money . what is the recourse?
We have all documents required to show legitimacy of the tenancy rights.

Send a notice of attornment to the new owner and offer rent to him.
If he refuses to receive the rent then deposit the same in rent controller.

you should never give rent in cash . now you have no evidence that you had paid old landlord rent . send letter by regd post AD to old landlord that you have paid one year rent to him and request for stamped receipt . let him reply that he has sold building to new landlord .
on receipt of such reply you should pay the rent to new landlord by cheque .

Send Registered AD letter to the old landlord for receipt. You have no proof that you have paid rent to old land lord, it would be better to pay to new landlord by cheque.
