Restart criminal case

For our non-attending court the case got dismissed and judgement passed in favour of accused. Please suggest steps to take or to make application to restart the criminal case?

Whether it was a complaint case or State Case?

If it was a complaint case then may file an application seeking setting aside the order of ex-parte otherwise in State case, the only option is to file an appeal.
