I have some shares (about 130) of a well known company, held by a close relation,in physical form. I asked him to demat in my account but he has not taken interest to do so.How can I know the Folio # and other details without his help. Just to add, I had shares of the same company some 15 years ago which I sold.

if shres are standing in name of your relation in physical form he has to make application for demat .
if he is not cooperating why should the company share details of his folio no etc.
it appears your relation wants to continue holding on the shares .

Dear Suresh,
What is your concern with the shares of your relative, how the shares are in your custody and for what purpose do you want to demat such shares? If your relative does not want to open a demat account, which is necessary for converting physical shares in to demat, he can keep the shares in physical format even.

Shares need to be converted in Demat only if the same needs to be sold.

Thanks all Experts. My problem is that shares are in my name. The relative is holding them. The shares are of high value , so if he does any transaction,it would reflect on my name without my knowledge, since i live outside India.I do not have Folio No, how can I refer the matter to the Co. for any details of the shares. Thanks

If your relative is not taking any action to demat the shares in your name, most probably, he would have sold the shares in physical form imitating your signatures or by getting sinatures attested by notary public.
If you possess the allotment letter for shares, you can check folio No. from that.
If you don't have the folio No., and don't also have the allotment letter, but know the share certificates number, you can address the company to enquire about the folio No allocated to such series of share certificates when alloted/transferred in your name.
