I want to open snake farm in Ahmedabad. I want to know that's legal in india? if it's legal then which licenses I have to grab for opening a farm.
Devajyoti Barman (Expert) 22 August 2016
Snakes are endangered animal in India and you can not keep one without the permission of concerned department.
However for the purpose of making research on venom you can get the permission for which you have to get in touch with the government officials who can guide you properly.
Raj Kumar Makkad (Expert) 22 August 2016
You cannot open it in any part of India as per provisions of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 according to which snakes are protected animals.

Mr. Nilesh,

If not sure, it was quite irrevant on your part to quote example of Cheenai snake park.

Anyway, you may better go through the following Act & Rules on the issue:

1. The Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, as amended from time to time;

2. Recognition of Zoo Rules, 2009; and

3. The Wildlife (Protection) Licensing (Additional Matters for Consideration) Rules, 1983.
