Special acts

Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 13 November 2011 This query is : Resolved
Which Acts in India are Special Acts? How a general Public can identify the Special Acts?? What are the basic Principles to treat an Act as the Special Act.
Yash (Expert) 13 November 2011
There cannot be any abstract principle for a legislation to be termed as a Special Act.

However, it may be added that when it is required to control or deal with any subject or situation or create a special set of rules for a particular subject or for a definite object, the legislation may be termed as Special Act.

Also, an Act may be generally a general law dealing with an object but in comparison / conflict with any other law, the same may be a Special Act e.g. when the central and state legislature both have powers to deal with a particular subject, the central law may be a general law and state law may be a special law/Act.
