transfer of immovable property

(Querist) 27 May 2013 This query is : Resolved
My client is aged about 80 years wants to give his immovable property to his grandchildrens while he is existing. Gift deed is attracting stamp duty of 2%. Is there any other way where in stamp duty payment can be done away with.
Adv Archana Deshmukh (Expert) 27 May 2013
In my opinion no other way. If you want to avoid stamp duty altogether then, ask your client to execute a will.
Raj Kumar Makkad (Expert) 28 May 2013
Stamp duty cannot be avoided and gift deed is the only cheapest way to transfer.
