what are the formalities to transfer the proerty to heirs

find out whether there is some will or some family partition for the property concerned.
if there is some will then it will devolve according to the will and if there is some family settlement then the property is to be divided accordingly.
but in order to prove that u are legal heir u r supposed to get Succession Certificate from the civil court.
thereafter property is to be devided as mutually settled or according to Hindu Succession Act.
so pls visit some local lawyer with all documents and details to initiate the process.

I would like to add that find out the status of the property i.e. whether it is self acquired or ancestral,who are the heirs,what would be their share etc.and then do it by regd.settlement deed.
