My sister got married 6 years back and have one child. They have so many familiy issues. Every time my sister is blaming her husband and he is blaming my sister. He is blaming that my sister threatening him to commit suicide. She is very afraid that he will leave her. Every time we console them and for sometime there will not be issues. Then again it comes. My sister is saying that her husband dislike us coming to their home and interfering in their life. But he is saying that my sister is abusing him , his parents and sisters. Some time back, our father expired and we partition the property. That time also, we got issues. One big wrong my sister did is she came to our house without informing him. So he filed conjugal right case. After that, sister attended the case and she went with her husband. Our father's death effected her a lot and she is not able to tolerate the separation. Also, we are not talking with her. In this depression, she tried to commit suicide also. Then we showed her to doctor and they told that she have Paranoid schizophrenia. She was under treatment for last 10 months. What happened, we dont know, she stopped medicine and he is complaining that she is acting very violent. He admitted her in hospital. They told that she is suffereing from Borderline Behaviour disorder. Now she is with us. We are afraid that her husband will file any case on medical basis. Pl do advise us what to do. But she wants to leave with him. If he does, can we file any dowry case against him or his family? In this, my sister's son is effected most.

Please take if any legal case happens, you have to approach a local lawyer and deal with the matter.

However, as regards your sister's medical condition, please note that (i) the depression can be cured completely provided one understands her position with compassion and shows immense patience. Though her behaviour will be at times annoying and revolting and bringing anger in any one watching her, but one has to show enormous patience to withstand her tantrums and give her lot of company. One has to engage her in talks/conversation to divert her attention. Always talk in a positive tone. Do not shout at her. If need be, better engage persons / maids to look after her. You have to take medical advice for her and act according to the medical advice and give her proper medicine.

A continuous medical treatment is necessary before the relation becomes non reparable. Well advised by the expert Anirudh ji.

Combined efforts from your side and your brother-in-law's family will yield good results. Your family should not have interfered in tackling their affairs in every occasion. You have to develop detachment with her parents in the mind of the girl who is married. At the same time, she should feel that in case of need, you people are there to support her. Your brother-in-law is right that you should not interfere their affairs frequently. He will not leave your sister as already he lived with her for six years and have a child also. Stop throwing blame on his family. Take them into confidence, both familieis together can bring change in your sister's attitude. Once she starts taking medicines without break, all of you talk toher nicely forgetting old story, there will be positive results. See that she should develop attachment with the child.

Thanks for your advise. Is it possible to apply divorce on this psychological behaviour. If so, what are positive points on our side to defend.
ajay sethi (Expert) 20 November 2013
merely because your sister is suffering from schizophrenia is no ground for divorce . it can be treated . if her husband files for divorce contest the proceedings .
Rajendra K Goyal (Expert) 20 November 2013
If divorce filed by the husband oppose the same.

Thanks Experts. As ajay sethi pointed out, my sister is not having schizophrenia but Borderline personality disorder. It is what mentioned in discharge summary. I dont know whether they are same.
Also we heard now from one of our relative that he is planning to vacate the house (his owner asked fearing for my sister's issue. House owner also called me and informed to vacate the house.) but he will not inform us the new location. What do to. Can we make police complaint if he does.
