Welfare society

(Querist) 03 April 2014 This query is : Resolved
We have a welfare society registered under society act 1860 for our executives working in petroleum sector. The society wants to purchase a plot of land in Noida/Greater Noida and construct flats for its members. Is there any restriction by any law for this. We have been advised to get a Sahkari Avas samiti registered with UP Avas Vikas authority.
R.V.RAO (Expert) 03 April 2014
your society bye laws should permit you to acquire land and construct flats for members.otherwise alter bye laws to provide for the same .

hope the society act 1860 does permit such a good service for members.i have not checked the act myself in this respect.

if your society register with the U.P housing DEV.AUTHORITY,it is likely your society gets benefits of subsidised loans for members or constrc. material etc. at subsidised rates being a welfare society.
all the best for the good job.

There is no such restriction and no need to form any other society, however, engage a local lawyer, s/he will be beneficial for your society and its members
