If the respondent refuses to answer some of the questions during cross-examination in divorce case irrespective of whether they are relevant or not, can judge assume he is in fault or draw adverse inference against him? Do respondent have the right to remain silent during cross? If yes, what are the possible consequences of it?

it depends upon the situation, silence may amount to admission as well...the question is whether the question has been recorded during cross which the respondent refused to answer.
otherwise irrelevant questions need not be answered.

Generally the respondent either reply it or denies it the statement. If he or she keep salient then court also ask her/him.And off course ,irrelevant questions need not be answered.so, many judge said next question ,next.etc.

If irrelevant you have to explain than and there ,otherwise silence means admission.

In addition to above views, court can note demeanour of witness.
