Mr. X was a small time business owner. He married Ms. Y in June 1984. Two months into their marriage, they started having arguments about dowry. Mr. X forced Ms. Y over and over again to ask her father for the dowry amounting up to 10 lakh rupees.
On 18th October, 1984, Mrs. Y was found dead on her bedroom floor with snake bites all over her face and limbs. According to neighbours, they had an extremely heated argument, at the end of which their next doors neighbour, Mr. T saw Mr. X storming out of the house.
Allegedly Mr. X let the snake loose in the room and left the house for the night. He was found by the police the next day at his friend’s house nearby, when they were called by the postman when he found Mrs. Y.
When the father of Mrs. Y, Mr. A was questioned he revealed that two days before the incident, Mr. X had called him up and threatened to harm him or Mrs. Y if he did not give him the dowry.
The police caught Mr. X at his friend’s house and although he had not accepted anything, he is now being charged under sections 498A and 302 for cruelty by husband and murder.
The sessions court of Bundi district, Rajasthan has convicted the accussed under section 306 and 498 A. The prosecution has decided to file an appeal before the Hon'ble Rajasthan High Court
