My school makes children and teachers work on Gazette holiday of Guru Nanak birthday though it is marked as a non working day in school record. No compensatory or EL is given in lieu of it.

Where (which state) is your school located?
What is the reason for functioning of school on holiday? Generally schools do not open on gazetted holdiay(s)?
What is your locus standie/ concern to the query?
It is advisable to consult a local prudent lawyer for better appreciation of facts/ relevant documents, guidance and proceeding if there is some truth in the story.

Ji, though it is a public holiday (gazetted holiday), the school authorities may call you along with others for practice for school celebration day. it is your school celebration. still have doubt, complain to DEO.
Dr J C Vashista (Expert) 10 November 2019
Practice for annual day function is internal arrangement of School for which no institution provide compensatory holiday except next working day.
