In a case where wife is beaten up by her husband doesn’t amount to domestic violence unless a sufficient reason of violation of right to life is shown.

The law (under the provisions of same Act i.e., Prtoection of Woman from Domestic Violence Act, 2005) has recently allowed man to move to the Court for committing any such cruelity by woman to a man.

Contact a prudent local lawyer for guidance and proceeding.

If woman/wife beats man/husband than it may amounts to physical cruelty. If the beating is without any provocation from the man/husband and is not for self defence of the wpma/wife than it will show that it was done with intention to inflict physical cruelty on the man/husband. In such case the ground for divorce will be there for the husband to seek decree of divorce, dissolving the marriage, from the Family Court.

if the physical abuse is result of provocation by spouse ?

Depends on nature of provocation Mr. Kumar. If it was caused intermittently due to a frivolous cause it may not be necessarily entertained by the court. But where it has been hpng almost occasionally a cause of action may lie on pt of aggrieved spouse to file decree of divorce pn cruelty grounds u/ 1955 hindu marriage act
