Do a convict have to pay fine to be eligible for appeal?

In a criminal case, where court awards imprisonment and fine, and in default of payment of fine further imprisonment, whether it is a precondition that the fine must be paid immediately to be eligible to file an appeal?

One would normally ask for a stay on the payment of fine. If the appeal is admitted, the fine will also be stayed.
