You can gift any amount to your mother and execute a gift deed just notarised to prove that the amount transferred to your mother was a gift from her son.
As per the Income Tax Act, money received as a gift from certain relatives is tax-free irrespective of the amount. That means the amount received from husband/wife, son/daughter (including stepchild and adopted child), father/mother (including step-father/mother), daughter-in-law/son-in-law, brother-in-law (and his wife), sister-in-law (and her husband) is tax-exempt.
