Paying a goodwill amount to a fee based lawyer on settlement

No lawyers replied last time, so posting this question again.

Just want to find out the norm.

I had filed a property inheritance case against my brother after my father passed away.  I had asked the honorable court for my share in ancestral property which my brother was not willing to give me.

Finally,a  settlement has been reached in the case and I will be paid a certain amount by my brother per the order of the court.

I have always paid the agreed fees to my lawyer all along, but my lawyer is now hinting that I should pay a percentage of the settlement amount to my lawyer as an additional goodwill amount.

Is there any such precedence or a normal practice and if yes, what is the percentage normally given to the lawyer in such cases?

If any one has paid like this, plaese reply or if lawyers have seen an example of this, please reply.
