Selling toys above MRP - Is it permissible ?

Hello members,

Recently i went to buy some toys for my child and i found that the dealer charges 300% more than the MRP. When asked he says that in order to evade taxes a low MRP is printed by the importer. The dealer label in the package shows an MRP of Rs.920 whereas the small label which bears Country of manufacture, IMPORTER, MRP shows an MRP of Rs.375 (incl. of taxes) which is the label of the importer/distributor

IMO this is an offence according to standards of weights and measures (packaged commodities) Rules. WHen i argued with him he says every shop sells more than the MRP which is applicable for toys alone. He showed me a pen drive which shows an MRP of 900/- whereas the dealer sticker bears 440/- as MRP.

Are toys an exception for not to sell more than the MRP ??.  Even in the bazaar , they are sold for more than the MRP for which no bill is given. But i think surely this shop will provide bill. Please tell me what action can be taken against these day robbers.... I have not bought the product yet.....

IT is not at all permissible. In fact in addition to a complaint to the Controller of Weights & Measures, you may lodge a complaint with the Customs Authorities. If the low MRP was printed by the importer, it would be probably to evade customsduty.

vasu sir, so do you mean that the mrp printed by the dealer is valid ?. Because u say that low mrp printed by importer is to evade customs duty... So r u trying to say that the price will surely be more than the mrp ?
