being absent in office on Republic Day

Sir,
I am a Govt. employee.I could not be present in office on Republic Day celebration.My controlling officer alleges me of being a traitor and has ordered to held up my salary of that day.Please help me.E-mail add-rajib@accountant.com

There is no requirement to be present in the office function on such a National Holiday. Have you received a copy of such an order? If not, I presume that such an order might have been issued only to the Accounts branch.
If you have received a copy of the order and if you find any cut in your January 2011 salary, then make a representation to the Controlling Officer saying that you are not a traitor as alleged in the order and request for release of the salary for that day.
In case the salary is not released in your February or March salary, then again report the matter in this site along with the original order and your representation, then one of us can handle the matter.

It is not mandatory to present in the office on republic day. But, it is your duty to obey the orders of the superiors. Insubordination may result in punishment.

I disagree. to attend Republic Day or Independence Day celebration is compulsory/mandatory and for this an employee is liable for action in accordance with directions of the Government.
