A former agriculturist want to become an agriculturist

My f-in-law was holding 8 acres of inherited land in karnataka until 1985 along with his 5 brothers,after that they have sold it.
Presently he is not holding any agri land in his name or in his wife name any where in india.presently he is retired with no pension sustaining on interest on deposits (retd benefits) residing in his own house.The interest on deposit is less than 2 lakhs per anum.
one of his son lives with him who's income is more than 2 lacs per anum.
My f-in-law wants buy agri land and go back to field. he may take help from his children for finance.
what is the procedure in karnataka?

you said he will going to buy the land. what answer you expected to get from here. if he wish then he can buy, hope there is no hurdle or legal formality will stop his planning. if he expect any finance aid from his son then it is his own matter. procedure of buy land is almost as common as other state.

*The querist want to know as his father in law lost the status of Agriculturist without which the agricultural land cannot be purchased in Karnatka, can he purchase it right now. The procedure to purchase the agricultural land is not same in all States in India.

Mr. Uday! Even if your father in law had sold his entire agricultural land some years ago even then he can use those documents means pahani (7/12 extracts) even on today showing his past status as agriculturist and can very well get the permission to purchase agricultural land in Karnatka.

Your father might have a copy of those land saledeed, inwhich you will find 7/12 extract which bears his name can use as proof of agriculturist.
