(Querist) 10 May 2014 This query is : Resolved
Hello experts,
One of my relatives has been appointed as presiding officer for lok sabha 2014 election. He has attended both trainings and has also accepted the remuneration. But due to serious illness he may not be able to attend on the day of polling? What are the consequences for this? PLEASE REPLY URGENTLY
Devajyoti Barman (Expert) 10 May 2014
On medical person, the person is exempted from polling duty.

on medical grounds he would be exempt from polling duty

Inform the election officer with the medical certificate of the concerned person. Better get the medical certificate issued / endorsed by District Medical officer.
Sudhir Kumar, Advocate (Expert) 10 May 2014
I may not agree with Mr Barman. Merely being sick is no exemption from duty, The sickness has to be cetified by competent medical authority and reported to electoral autorities

It is right stated by Mr. Sudhir Kumar some formalities are to be filled with immediate effect to justify the absence from duty in the time of polling.
T. Kalaiselvan, Advocate Online (Expert) 14 May 2014
The concerned authority to be informed in advance about his absence so that the authority shall arrange for an alternative, after that the candidate shall produce the medical certificate along with his leave application for the purpose.
