1. Paternity leave is not a regular leave in the strict sense. It is not incidental to normal service like EL, HPL which are credited as a matter of course to the leave account. However since the paternity leave is a leave with pay, it counts as time spent on duty for all practical purposes. Hence, there is no need to extend the period of probation.
2. same analogy applies to HPL also.

@Author, Paternity leave be treated as leave spent on duty. if any employee applied for EL/HPL during the probation, in such case, the period of probation be extended.

Agreed with Mr.Rao.
Questions can be raised for any leave, however there is no need to extend the probation period.

The Central government deems it necessary for its male employees to avail 15 days of paternity leave to bond with their newborn, while most private companies are still debating paternity leave.
HPL a Govt Of India undertaking may not be obliged to come under the above. probation period can be extended to the extent of leave availed.During probation paternity leave is not a paid leave in most companies and also mnc's.
