Changing baby's name

(Querist) 23 February 2015 This query is : Resolved
Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to change my 4 and 1/2 months baby's name, which got registered at his Birth Certificate at Ahmedabad. But, I was informed from various sources that only possibility to change baby's name now is when he will get the admission in school. At that time I can mention the new name. I would like to know that is this is the only way to get name change or Am I missing some important information. I would really appreciate any help.
Thank you.

You will have to get an affidavit done saying that you are changing your baby's present name to a different name, and the reason for it. No need to wait till admission in school.

You can change by sworn affidavit, news paper ad and publication in official gazette. Consult the registrar to know the procedure for changing name in birth certificate.

Birth certificate do not contain name of new born baby, recheck.

If the name of the child has been registered with the registrar of births and deaths in Ahmadabad, it will not be possible to change the same now hence the procedure for change of name outside is to be adopted, i.e., by making an affidavit stating that both the names are one and the same and getting it published in the government gazette publication etc.

Thanks alot to all of you for the prompt help. I would like to clear certain points here,

Dr J C Vashista (Sir), its a Certificate of Birth, issued by Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC), mentioning the baby and parents name, along with home address.

T. Kalaiselvan (Sir), yes the name of the child has been registered with the registrar of births and deaths in Ahmedabad.

As far as, affidavit, newspaper ad and publication in gazette is concerned, I too had little idea of this, but the lawyer we consulted he clearly mentioned that name could be only changed when YES node is given by Judge and if he says no, then wait till admission.

Wondering why he is misguiding us then!

Will consult someone else.

Thanks alot for all you replies.
