He might have filed a suit for recovery on the basis of bounced cheque. Had you obtained the receipt from him when you cleared your debt? Had you taken back your original cheques when you cleared your entire account?
If yes, then you need not to worry and if you paid only through cash without any receipt from his side then definitely you are required to be serious.
Engage the local lawyer dealing in civil side.

If notice and case is for cheque bounce it seems that same is not filed within time to send notice and file case after bouncing.
If case is for recovery, defend yourself on merit. consult a local lawyer and show him all the documents.

Cheque-bouncing case is time sensitive and it cannot go deferred for such a long time hence the possibility is for suit for recovery.

There are many flaws in the case filed against you by that person. Merely having an outdated cheque ipso facto do not give a legal right to a holder of that cheque to file a suit for recovery if there is no legal liability of the defendant to pay the amount of the cheque in favour of the plaintiff.
Defend the case on all counts.
