(Querist) 17 May 2012 This query is : Resolved
is pf is deducted only on basic salary and suppose if a person's basic salary is only 2,500, is he entitled or employer is duty bound to add his DA or other allowance with basic salary and deduct/contribute at an amount inclusive of basic+allowance?
Deepak Nair (Expert) 17 May 2012
12% of the Basic salary is deducted towards PF and the contribution of the employer is 12%.
The deductio is only from Basic and not from basic + allowances.
Nadeem Qureshi (Expert) 17 May 2012
Mr. Deepak is right
Sankaranarayanan (Expert) 17 May 2012
Basic salary even bellow 1000 then the amount of basic is lible for pf dedection
H. S. Thukral (Expert) 18 May 2012
the PF shall be deducted on basic+ DA + retaining allowance.
further if it is found that the employer has reduced the wages in such a way to deny all the benefits to the employee, it can be looked into.

I agree with the views of Sh. Thukral. Even certain allowances /incentives form part of basic wages for the purpose of deduction of PF contributions.

I endorse the views expressed by Mr. Thukral.

It seems Mr. Deepak and Mr. Nadeem (EXPERTS)are ignorant of the provisions of the EPF Act & rules.

PF contributions are to be deducted on basc+DA with a ceiling of Rs. 6500/-

I too agree with the expert Harbhajan Singh Thukral
