I'm from general category but my husband is from obc category, can I apply for ews from behalf of my husband side
T. Kalaiselvan, Advocate (Expert) 02 August 2024
You must fall under the general category which means you cannot belong to the SC/ST/OBC categories who already have reservations and the MBC category in case of Tamil Nadu. Your annual family income should be below 8 lakh rupees.
Economically Weaker Section (EWS) in India is a subcategory of people having an annual family income less than ₹8 lakh (US$9,600) and who do not belong to any category such as SC/ST/OBC (Central list) across India.
you belong to the family of your husband hence you cannot expect any such relaxation.

As the caste or category, you do not change after marriage as you belong to the general category. If your annual income is not more than Rs8.00 lakhs you apply for EWS certificate in the Tahsildar office concerned. There may be a chance.
Sudhir Kumar, Advocate (Expert) 03 August 2024
You are not eligible even if your family annual income is less than 8 lakh.

You are not born OBC. Marriage does not change cast status.
T. Kalaiselvan, Advocate (Expert) 06 August 2024
She is asking that whether she can apply on behalf of her husband and not for herself.
She becomes one of the family members of her husband, hence her husband family coming under OBC are not eligible for EWS quota
