Hi,
Because of lack of awareness, in my family everybody has either different surname or no surname. I want to make a change in each name with a common surname. How can it be done? Can my father ask for this change on behalf of whole family by following the usual process of name change and by publishing in a newspaper? All the family members are above eighteen. Please give your valuable suggestions.

Eeryone in your family who wishes to change the surname will have to affirm affidavit before a first class magistrate of your locality and then have to make a paper publication to that effect.

Hi,
Thanks a lot for your prompt reply.
If I understand correctly, Individual has to follow same process, and my father as a head of family can't do this for whole family in one go. Please correct me.

since, all the members are majors, your father has no role in this process.

Swearing of an affidavit changes the surname only but wont change the surnames appearing the school records and other records.
