Hi All
We recently adopted a child and after going through the requisite formalities, have been granted permission by the court to have the child legally under our name.
We got the baby from Punjab and though we have the court order, I understand, a birth certificate naming us as the adopted parents is a must too.
I am not sure of the laws/procedures in place to get this done. Do I need to visit Punjab and apply to the Municipal corporation there for a birth certificate or can this be done here in Bangalore?
Would really appreciate is someone could please guide us on how we go about the necessary formalities to ensure a worry free future for our child.
Thanks KS in anticipation!

The Court Order will take care of your legal status as adopted parents.

Hi Venus, the court order does take care if the legal status however, birth certificate is a must for everything else starting from school admissions.

You have to produce the court order for adoption, to the Registrar of births. Based on this the Registrar will make necessary corrections in his record. The old record will be kept under seal confidentially, that old record will be opened only by a court order.

Respected Sirs
Please pardon the misspell in names of advocates Mr. P. Venu and Mr. Sainath Devalla. This was not done intentionally but a result of the spell-checker in place on my device. While I understand this should have been taken care of (which I did by addressing Mr. Sainath correctly thereafter), I still happened to misspell Mr. Venu's name. My apologies again to both of you Sir's.
My only intention through this forum is to get proper guidance/ direction for a birth certificate for my child and I believe I will definitely be pardoned for this blunder considering the experience and stature of such distinguished and respected advocates in this forum.
Going by the guidance given above, I understand that I would need to approach the Registrar of Births to have the process started however, does this have to be done at the place I got my child from or can I obtain the certificate by approaching the authorities locally? Can anyone of you possibly guide me to a contact I can reach to have this done?
Thanks all in advance for your time and efforts in my quest to secure a better future for my child.
Best Regards
Samit

Yes you have to approach the registrar of births and deaths of the place where you gt the child adopted, registered the adoption dd and got the court order. That will be the jurisdiction for obtaining a amended birth certificate of the adopted child with the details of the adopted parents.
