Telling own opinion to some one about a known person, which may be positive or negative, is not a matter of defamation.
In the given case, your friends have not publically at the public place with intent to defame you on the basis of facts which are otherwise wrong in their knowledge, just to harm your reputation, have done nothing so no case is made out against them.
You need to amend your words for them like calling them friends. You should replace them in your interest.

It seems that case is not fit for defamation. Consult with local lawyer before taking any action.

Holding opinion in estimation does not afford ground of defamation even if published.
