Gift deed act

(Querist) 17 March 2013 This query is : Resolved
Respected Learned Lawyers,

I came across a news paper article which stated that when an immovable property gifted to a person, the recipient can NOT sell the property till his life time and only his/her successors can sell. Is it correct and mentioned so in the Gift Deed Act ?

Thanks & Regards
Balaji

There is no such law. The donee is at liberty to sale at once after gift.

The law on gift is laid in Transfer of Property Act.

Gift once complete, passes title at once.

However donor and donee may agree to suspend or revoke the gift on the happening of any specified event which does not depend on the will of the donor a gift.

You have not heard properly. The donee has full right to make its sale if he requires during his life time.

PROVIDED THE GIFT IS NOT CONDITIONAL.
