Minimum & maximum age of an employee

Dear Sir,

I would like to know Minimum & Maximum age of an employee, in such organization where ESI & PF act are applicable.

For PF:-

Minimum age there is no provision in law.
Maximum age 58 years

For ESI

Minimum age there is no provision in law.

Minimum is 16 years and maximum is 58 years but for 4th class employees this maximum age is 60 years.

Minimum age though not prescribed in the ESI act, it should be 18 years as on attaining this age a person can enter into a service contract. Regarding the Maximum age the same is 58 years for supervisory and above grades and 60 years for all posts below that grade. Similarly Pension under EPF act becomes payable to an employee on attaining the age of 58 years.

the minimum age of 18 years applies on to govt service.

there are some non-hazardous industries where children can be employed.

that does not mean that employer is at liberty to shed his PF and ESI liability for these workers..
