This query is : Resolved
Pls someone advise on who should retain original POA document given for homeloan in sbi format.
Sbi refuses to return original POA but whatever little I know, legally original poa document should always be with the person to whom it's been given
Highly appreciate your advise and time
Thanks in advance

Thanks for the reply.
I have given poa to my brother for a flat I recently bought and got sbi homeloan
Sbi RACPC retained the original POA doc during loan processing and refuses to return
I believe that POA doc will be required later to complete various other legal formalities like municipality, registration, mortgage etc where a photocopy will not be accepted hence bank should not keep original POA doc

If the POA is given at the request of the bank as per their format, the bank will not return that.
If you have given a GPA for various other purposes and registered it, you can take it back, after providing a certified copy.

Yes apply for its return on giving photocopy or certified copy.

If it is specific POA for loan, Bank may retain it, you can get attested copy and acknowledgement for it. No use to keep it with you. Bank would return it on repayment of loan.
GPA should be returned.
